History and Stories

Excerpt from the Malleon Auditor’s Manual, The Criterion:

The purpose of history is to balance accounts. Our auditors have, for hundreds of years, embarked on long and perilous missions to map the tides of history that push the Conflux forward. We have accumulated thousands of records, both witnessed by our auditors and rebuilt from dogged investigation, that tell the story of how the Conflux came to become the cradle and the cauldron of humanity’s hope and progress. We have also, at great risk to our auditors, had representatives present at nearly every conflict, major or minor, between the three great civilizations. And what we have learned, at substantial but inevitable cost, that far from existing in the past as most classical historians would have done, the past in fact lives on in us. And it is from the understanding of the past, and a fair and true audition, that we derive our just rewards, to the profit of all.
